Jane Blume CMC^®

Jane Blume CMC^® has been an active, award-winning communications professional for four decades. Her PR firm, Desert Sky Communications, was founded in 1989 to help clients gain visibility and recognition for the wonderful work that they do by “getting the right messages to the right audiences."

Jane helps her clients understand that public relations is more than just trying to sell a product or service, but also includes a commitment to serving the community.

Jane is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC^®) through the Institute of Management Consultants USA, a national professional association and the sole certifying body for management consultants in the U.S. IMC USA awards the CMC^® mark to those select consultants who have demonstrated a history of substantive results for clients, adherence to IMC's canon of ethics, and professional practice management. Fewer than 1% of all consultants have achieved this level of performance.

In 2005 Vista Research Services, a New York City based firm providing independent research and advice to Wall Street mutual fund and hedge fund managers, invited Jane to join its Society of Industry Leaders. Members of the Society, who are considered “thought leaders” within their industries, consult with Vista’s clients about industry trends and other topics within their areas of expertise.

Considered a dynamic and inspiring public speaker, she gives presentations on more than 15 topics relating to publicity, promotion, marketing, advertising and consulting. She appeared regularly on “Smallbiz America Sunday,” a weekly radio program providing tips, advice and information to small and micro businesses in the Albuquerque and Santa Fe metro areas.

Before opening Desert Sky Communications, Jane held communications and management positions in public broadcasting, the performing arts, higher education and private business in Albuquerque, Portland, Oregon, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Washington, D.C., where she accumulated considerable experience in public, community and media relations, writing and editing, marketing, advertising, and strategic planning.

Active in both professional and community organizations, Jane is the vice chair of IMC USA's national Marketing & PR Committee; the co-founder and Board member of the New Mexico Association of Management Consultants; president-elect and programs chair of The Association for Women in Communications/New Mexico; a frequent judge for The Association for Women in Communications' national Clarion Awards; can be heard hosting music and public affairs programs on public radio station KUNM/89.9-FM; and is a Board member and PR Chair for the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO)/Northern New Mexico Chapter.

NAWBO has recognized Jane twice with the "Kudos" award for Mentor of the Year. Other honors she or her company has received include designation as one of ten "smart, savvy, and successful" women by the Albuquerque Women in Business Directory; a Telly Finalist in the Fundraising category for a video co-production with Avista Video Histories; the YWCA Middle Rio Grande's prestigious "Women On The Move" award in the Public Relations-Marketing-Media category, and broadcasting awards from the National Federation of Community Broadcasters, New Mexico Associated Press and the National Women's Political Caucus.
